looking out. looking in.
Another online relationship found. This one a publishing project. Manon Doran and I showed up as the only ones on a zoom call. Our conversation revealed we had a lot in common. Education, theatre, community work, art, and a love of process and metaphor.
She had been making with upcycled/recycled materials. The ‘series’ involved hundreds of flower-like pieces! I said: you should send me some. She said: I will! And so, this project was born. The ‘unboxing’ was delightful, and I documented it! Several spirals in each set, connected by blue yarn, installed with old hangers and clothespins. Photographing the installation became its own looking out/looking in experience.
The exhibit, leading her to an instructional video for our transitional housing art group: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UfdyH_xsztk&feature=youtu.be, and we were inspired to make work in response to hers. You can see the guys hanging their work in the window in the last pics! And it was the perfect way to prepare for Neuro Blooms!
